They Are Watching (we are no longer under the radar but on it!)

Every year we are visited by the TSA and the FAA to perform an annual vulnerability assessment mostly due to our proximity to DC. As part of the 9/11 Commission Recommendation Act of 2007 airports with runways less than 2,500 feet, of which there are 3,000, were asked to complete an online Vulnerability Assessment survey. The assessment will be used by TSA to develop and implement a standardized threat assessment program for GA airports.

There will also be unannounced visits from the TSA to validate the surveys and test existing security. This will include checking hangars for ease of entry and if entry is gained, check the aircraft security. This will also include planes in tie downs. Before you say they cannot do that, I have been informed that the Homeland Security Act of 2002 gives the TSA broad authority to test and validate security at all airports.

Last Sunday morning two gates were found open, and mud tracks from a truck or car were on the runway. Over the next few days all the gates will be changed over to combination locks and ALL the combinations will be changed. I should not have to write this, but the combinations are for tenant use only. Non tenant vehicles should not be inside the gates unless they are performing work and I NEED TO BE NOTIFIED ahead of time by email or phone since I will be getting the calls if something happens.

Security at the airport is becoming a big deal even with Baltimore County. The police have asked that we keep a list of vehicles and tag numbers so they know who should and should not be at the airport after hours. There will be more information about an Airport Security plan with a Who To Call List.

Over the next couple of weeks we will be mailing out documents that need to be filled out and returned. We also will need updated contact information with emergency contacts from everyone.

If you have any questions you can call, email info@essexskyparkassn.org, or see me at the airport this weekend.
